Sandipan Samaddar
Director, Microbial Discovery Switch Bioworks
Dr. Sandipan Samaddar is a soil microbiologist and Head of Microbial Discovery at Switch Bioworks, where he leads the identification of high-performing microbes for the development of sustainable, low-cost nitrogen biofertilizers. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural Chemistry from Chungbuk National University in South Korea and completed postdoctoral research at the University of California, Davis, with a focus on soil microbial diversity and agroecosystem resilience. Dr. Samaddar also oversees grant-funded global biofertilizer initiatives aimed at improving soil health and productivity for smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. He brings extensive experience and expertise in soil microbiomes, biogeochemical cycling, and biofertilizer innovation to drive sustainable agricultural solutions.
Seminars
- Outlining problems related to the traditional way of producing synthetic N fertilizers
- Painting the big picture on how the biofertilizer space looks like now and what are current challenges
- Presenting sustainable and affordable ways of building an efficient N biofertilizer and introducing Switch technology
- Addressing the need for a mode of action evidence for products marketed within the nitrogen fixation categories
